3 Reasons to Start a Blog Now (& Not Later!)

3 Reasons to Start a Blog Now Not Later

Do you have a blog or business idea that’s been sitting on the back burner for way too long? If you answered yes, why haven’t you yet made this dream into a reality?

Maybe you’ve already picked out your business name and snagged the domain, but you’re stuck on picking the right hosting service and designing your logo and theme. And it seems like you’ll never get to the point where you’re happy enough with it to show it to the world.

So, it keeps sitting on your to-do list. And your big, amazing ideas aren’t being shared with those who need to hear them.

I know this feeling so well, because I’ve had this exact same thing happen to me. The idea of starting my home decor blog first came to mind in 2012. I started putting it together, but quickly got hung up on the logistical and design aspects of starting the blog. So I gave up and pushed it to the back of my mind. It took me three and a half years before I was motivated enough to start working on it again, and after that it only took me a few months of planning and tweaking before I officially launched it.

I had no clue what I was doing. And my design was absolutely horrible now that I look back on it. But I am SO glad that I started my blog when I did, imperfections and all.

If you’re in the same boat I was, I want to share with you three reasons why you should start a blog NOW and not LATER.

1. No One Starts Off Perfect

I can guarantee you that almost every blogger has a horror story for you of a mistake they made when they were first starting out. Maybe they had a poorly designed website (like I did) that was hard to read and navigate through. Or perhaps their photography skills weren’t exactly up to par. (That was ALSO me).

I know, it’s SO easy to look at successful, professional bloggers with their perfect websites and compare yourself to them. But don’t let yourself fall into that trap. Focus on yourself and how you can serve your readers, and don’t waste your energy on trying to be perfect.

2. People Will Give You Grace

I’ve been seriously blogging for two years now, and I can tell you that whenever I come across new bloggers, I have so much grace for them. Because I KNOW what it feels like when you are just starting out.

I still fondly remember the first large bloggers who reached out to me, commented on my posts, and asked me to guest post for them. I was a newbie with a bad website, but they saw my potential! And others will see your potential, too.

Because in the end good design is important, but your content is king. So go ahead and publish those blog posts, and everything else will fall into place in time.

3. The Best Way to Learn is Through Experience

I started my first blog in 2015 without knowing a thing about photography or how to design a website. And I can tell you for sure that the only way I improved was through trial and error, and asking for help. That website has been through so many design phases, and I probably went through five different themes before I landed on the one I’m currently using (and LOVE).

But blogging is also a continuous learning experience with a never-ending to-do list. I’m sorry to be the one to break it to you, but it’s true! There are always going to be more things for you to learn and add into your blogging strategy. So it’s just not realistic to wait to launch a blog until you think you’ve learned everything, because that’s probably not going to happen. 🙂

So, what should you do now that you’ve decided to take a leap of faith and start a blog?

Stay tuned for the answer next week where I’m going to answer this question and talk about the 8 things you need to do before launching a blog!
